In cooperation with a specialist company, AUMUND has developed a technical solution for the transport of hot bath material which allows the further processing of the hot material that is picked up by a grab from the electrolysis pots during the anode change. Instead of collecting the hot bath material in open containers and allowing it to cool down in the potroom for up to 72 hours, a hot material crusher and the AUMUND cooling conveyor recycle the bath material immediately in its hot condition. The cooling down of the bath material to the required temperature of 70-80°C occurs within approx. 10-12 hours. The fluorine gas released during the first hours of the cooling process is captured inside a hood above the cooling conveyor and carried off through suction lines. The cooling conveyor ensures the clean handling of the bath material and thus leads to a considerable improvement in the safety in the potroom. In addition, the application of the cooling conveyor also takes into account the health aspects, as the fluorine gases in the potrooms are reduced. Moreover, the automation with the cooling conveyor results in low handling costs. The AUMUND technology is applied in various aluminium smelters (Husnes plant, SØRAL (Norway); Alcan-ISAL (Iceland); SLOVACO, Slovakia; Nordural (Iceland); Fjordaal (Iceland). |
